Lenahen Breaks his 31st Record this year
Chris Lenahen, representing Accel Sports
(formerly known as Episcopal Iron Eagles) competed in the Rodger DeGarmo
Memorial meet this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 6th, at the United States
Olympic Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Lifting in the 94kg Class,
Chris made 5 of 6 and Snatched 117kg and C+J 155kg for a total of 272kg.
The total of 5 records broken this weekends places Chris at 31 new Florida
records set this year. In addition, he won the silver medal this
weekend, losing the gold by one 1kg to a 2003 Jr. World Team member.
Way to go Chris. Keep the records coming.

September's
athlete of the month is a lifter you may not have heard of before. He's
new to the Florida Weightlifting community but from what has been said about
him, we may all hear more and more about him in the near future.
He is Clint
Jenkins, representing Accel Sports Weightlifting Club (formerly Episcopal Iron
Eagles). Clint has had "incredible
accomplishments after only being in the sport 6 months", says Coach Kevin
Caldabaugh. During the day, Clint works as an accountant. After a normal
day in the office he travels to the dirty Gainesville Gym where he trains until
close.
Over the last 9
weeks, Clint has trained almost completely by himself in preparation for the
Mushtok Open; only the second meet of his career. He has not had much of a
traditional style of coaching. Much of it was done by his training partner
Brian Secrest (while in between sets) or late night phone conversations with
Coach Caldabaugh. In those night time calls, Clint does his best to
explain how his training sessions feel so that Coach could make necessary
comments.
At the Mushtok
meet, Clint's goals were to make all his lifts and post a 250kg total with a
105kg Snatch and a 145kg Clean & Jerk; however, he was forced to make a 14 kilo
jump over his 3 attempts in the clean & jerk if he wanted to come home as the
Mushtok Champion. Not only did he complete all 3 lifts, but his 3rd
attempts were by far his best. He was also the last lifter of the meet in only
his second appearance on the platform.
Thus far, Clint
has successfully lifted 11 of 12 attempts, having only missed 1 lift ever in a
meet. Clint is described as eager, hardworking, and ambitious. He was
nominated as this month's lifter of the month for many reasons but mainly
because of the hardships he has endured lately. As a new lifter in the
sport, he has shown above average success but it's extra challenging to train
alone with little coaching AND get better. Also, it should be mentioned that
his training partner moved to Jacksonville 3 weeks before the Mushtok meet, so
Clint lost his teammate and was forced to rely only on his own body awareness in
training and post-training coachiing tips. Clint has succeeded all while
holding a 40 hour a week job and studying late at night in an effort to get into
grad school. Coach Caldabaugh said that "his efforts on and off the platform
show dedication and embody the pure competitive spirit that is owned by all
great weightlifters." We agree!
Congratulations
Clint on your selection as September's Athlete of the Month. As hard as
it's been entering a new sport with your schedule, we hope you continue to be
involved and keep hitting those personal records.
