International Team Support

2026 International Athlete Funding Update

The Florida Weightlifting Committee has voted to pause international athlete funding for the remainder of the 2026 calendar year.

The funds allocated to support international competition in 2026 have been fully utilized. With several additional international opportunities remaining this year, the Committee determined that continuing to fund under the current structure would not be financially sustainable.

Florida Weightlifting remains incredibly proud of our athletes who earn the opportunity to represent Team USA on the international stage. Qualifying for an international team is a significant accomplishment that reflects tremendous dedication, hard work, and commitment to the sport. While we are unable to provide additional international funding for the remainder of 2026, we remain committed to supporting and celebrating our Florida athletes and their achievements.

Over the remainder of 2026, the Funding Committee will review the current international athlete funding program and work to develop a revised structure for 2027. Our goal is to establish clear and sustainable guidelines that allow Florida Weightlifting to continue providing meaningful support to our athletes while also protecting the long-term financial health of the Florida WSO.

We appreciate the understanding of our athletes, coaches, clubs, and members as we work toward a stronger and more sustainable funding program for 2027.

Congratulations to all of our Florida athletes who have earned opportunities to represent Team USA. We are proud of you and look forward to supporting and celebrating your success on the international stage.

New Rule Amendment – International Travel Funding

In 2024, we proudly earmarked funding to support Florida athletes selected for international competition. Selection to Team USA is a significant accomplishment, and in many cases, athletes must self-fund in order to compete internationally and represent the United States.

As this initiative has grown and we continue to strengthen and refine our programs each year, the following policies will take effect for2026 and beyond:

Approved Funded Competitions

  • Senior World Championships
  • Junior World Championships
  • Youth World Championships
  • Senior Pan American Championships
  • Junior Pan American Championships
  • Youth Pan American Championships

Rule 1: Florida WSO Membership Requirement

Any athlete requesting international travel funding must have been registered with the Florida Weightlifting State Organization (WSO) for a minimum of12 consecutive monthsprior to their funding request.

This requirement does not apply to athletes who were previously part of the Florida WSO. Any athlete who was a member of the Florida WSO on or beforeApril 25, 2025, will be automatically grandfathered and remain eligible for international athlete funding.

Athletes who join the Florida WSO after April 25, 2025, will become eligible for international travel funding after completing 12 months of membership with the Florida WSO.
