International Team Support
New Rule Amendment – International Travel Funding
Two years ago, we proudly earmarked funding to support Florida athletes selected for international competition. Selection to Team USA is a significant accomplishment, and in many cases, athletes must self-fund in order to compete internationally and represent the United States.
As this initiative has grown and we continue to strengthen and refine our programs each year, the following policies will take effect for 2026 and beyond:
Rule 1: Florida WSO Membership Requirement
Any athlete requesting international travel funding must have been registered with the Florida Weightlifting State Organization (WSO) for a minimum of 12 consecutive months prior to their funding request.
This requirement does not apply to athletes who were previously part of the Florida WSO. Any athlete who was a member of the Florida WSO on or before April 25, 2025, will be automatically grandfathered and remain eligible for international athlete funding.
Athletes who join the Florida WSO after April 25, 2025, will become eligible for international travel funding after completing 12 months of membership with the Florida WSO.
Rule 2: Florida State Championships Participation Requirement
Any athlete who receives international travel funding will be required to register for the Florida State Championships in the same competitive year.
Failure to register for the Florida State Championships will result in the athlete being ineligible for international travel funding.
Our goal is to keep Florida supporting Florida. We are proud of our weightlifting community and want to ensure this program continues to benefit athletes who are committed to representing and strengthening our state.
