The Florida Weightlifting Federation would like to recognize George Reynolds as our Member of the Month for September 2010
As we most often recognize athletes and coaches for their successes in our sport, rarely do we recognize those who work just as hard for little in return. We are talking about our volunteers, who referee, run our concession stands, or work our set up/break down of competition venues. This month we decided to honor one of these volunteers, George Reynolds.
George "Pops" Reynolds has been one of the most active members of the Florida Weightlifting Federation for the past seven years. George has never competed in nor coached Olympic Weightlifting, but was introduced to it when his son, Jesse Reynolds, began competing for Team Florida in January of 2003. George has always been extremely supportive of everything Jesse has ever done in his life and when Jesse fell in love with weightlifting, George wanted to be involved and help out.
George has many technical skills that he has donated to support weightlifting in Florida. He has helped to build all of the warm up platforms, competition platforms, light boxes, and number stands that many of us have seen used by Accel Sports and many other teams around the state. He constantly helps with the set up and break down of almost every meet around the state. He is perhaps most widely recognized for his unique "DOOOOOOOWWWWN" signal that he gives when he is the center referee at most FWF competitions.
George is a perfect example that passion and enthusiasm are most helpful when you want an organization or group to succeed. The Florida Weightlifting Federation is indebted to "Pops" for his many years of support that have helped every lifter in Florida be more successful! Thank you, George
